"To learn is to understand. Learning is seeking, finding, and seeing the point. Learning is problem solving, in the inclusive sense that when a person achieves a motor skill, or become able to appreciate a new poem or symphony, he has solve a problem and found a clue." (Aquino, 1974; p.13) Education is an important means by which an organized society achieves stability, progress, and prosperity. Education is for all, it's for all ages, and even for special people. In order to help our beloved country, we must became a better educated individuals so that our knowledge will help the country to progress, and we all know that education is the only precious thing we could have. To become a better person, we must never stop learning and acquiring new things. Learning is everywhere, and having a good character of enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and perseverance we can be a true and effective learner. Learning is a problem solving, we are given different test then we analyze, we formulate thoughts, we weigh things out, and we understand. Just like in reality, how we live up life and how we look at it is base on the things we've learned.
What is learning community? Learning community has its different ideas and definitions, but if we conclude them all, learning community is compose of different individuals with different characteristics that are exchanging opinions, thoughts, experiences, and knowledge. It is where everyone is a teacher and at the same times a learner. No man is an island as they say. By socializing and interacting with other people, we can gain information's that would probably increase our learning capabilities. People in our surrounding have their different roles in our lives, some were put there to hurt us, some were put there to guide us, and lastly, every person has the capability to teach us lessons, whether lessons in schools or lessons in life. It is always good to meet different people so that we will have many sources of knowledge and learning. Let us always put in mind that it is not only in the classroom, books, and our teachers, we can gain better knowledge but through ordinary people as well. To have many friends will definitely help us in every way. Friends are not just there to be our buddy, our companion, and our supporter, because friends can also be our best advisers. “Learning refers to the process of acquiring skills and knowledge, rather than an internal change of consciousness."(Brookfield, 1983; p.15) We all know that our intelligence is hereditary and that capability can be enhance in the best way through the help of our environment. Through our environment, we can really acquire new skills and it can really help us to develop from an immature to a better person. Innate knowledge should have a high relationship with the environment in order to grow better. “Learning is influenced by environmental factors, including culture, technology, and instructional practices."(Lucas and Corpuz, 2007; p.18)
Knowledge cannot only gain inside the school; it can be learned outside the school as what I've said in the first paragraph. And what are the other sources of knowledge aside from people that surrounds us? Innovative technologies are the answer. Now a day, people are really in to social net working. We can never deny the fact that despite some disadvantages, technology like computers are really a big help to each and everyone. Computers really have changed the way we work and computers play vital roles in every field. It's pretty much obvious that computers and other modernized soft wares have changed the visions of every student today. "New activities which at the formal operator’s level are mainly oriented toward the future."(Piaget, 1973; p.10) It only means that students are really looking forward for a new styles and techniques in teaching and learning process. Books can give us much information but computers and other innovative technologies give us the quickest answers we want to know. Socializing, interacting, and engaging ourselves to the social net working sites will not only give us the idea of meeting new people and making friends with them, but it can also help us to meet new activities for enhancing self development. "Computer based learning environments gives us a new perspective on the nature of teaching and learning and indeed on general educational objectives."(O'shea, 1983; p.59) To become a competitive learner, we must engage ourselves to many educable activities.
Engaging myself to this kind of activities, I can say that learning is really challenging yet it can also be very fun. Meeting Mr. Enrique Guevarra and his subject educational technology, it really changed my perspective about education. If learning for me before is just seating in the classroom, listening to teachers, and reading books, learning for me now is fun and interesting. Though it's kinda' expensive, it's all worth it, because the price of ignorance is far greater than the cost of an education, as what Mr. Guevarra has been telling to us. When he introduced the network NING and the BLOG SPOT, I was very fascinated and amazed by his teaching style. I am really gaining knowledge and enjoying the teaching and learning process at the same time. It help me to be very creative as well. I am not in to social networking sites but when Mr. Guevarra motivated us to learn the tecky way, it made me say "ohm..It’s cool and fun". It's good to be in a learning community where there are lots of different people and different techniques of acquiring new relevant information's. What Mr. Guevarra has been doing to us is really a big help for the next generations of educators. Specially now a days that students want something new in every discussions. It is always important for teachers to know the wants and the needs of every student so that teaching and learning is effective and productive. Learners have different approaches and capabilities that's why, what we are learning from Mr. Guevarra today is really a big help and guide in our teaching techniques someday.
To end this essay, Education is a must for each and everyone. For a great teacher, it is always better to apply many relevant techniques in teaching and learning process so that students will appreciate the efforts being made by the teachers and that their perspective about learning will be change. As individuals develop, there are different opportunities and approaches for learning. Learning is most effective when differences in the learners’ linguistic, cultural, and social background are taken into account. It should be the primary goal pf the teacher to create men who are capable of doing new things rather than repeating what the other generations have done. Education is priceless. Learning community is important, by means that it is one of the biggest contributors in ones development. Innovative technologies now a days, is really one of the factors to become globally competitive. And a teacher with great sense of humor creates the well equipped future educators.
